Geelong Duck Rescue is a committed group of wildlife rescuers campaigning to bring an end to the barbaric practice of Duck Shooting to the area of Geelong and surrounding wetlands.
For 14 years rescuers have been turning up to the Geelong wetlands to rescue wildlife from the guns of duck shooters. We don’t think that bloodsports are acceptable at all and there are a lot of brave volunteers willing to get injured birds despite the hostility of duck shooters who think they own the wetlands.
Duck shooting is a blood-sport that leaves wounded birds behind to suffer and die over long and painful periods of time. No duck shooter could ever guarantee 100% clean kills each time. Instead, many birds fly away with one or more steel pellets lodged in their body. They can take days to die and the only chance they have is for rescuers to be out there looking for them.
